About Marktplaats Pro
What is Marktplaats Pro?
Marktplaats.nl is a website for businesses and consumers and mainly used for selling second-hand products. Publishing an advertisement on the website of Marktplaats, can be done for free normally. However, Marktplaats als has a paid model which is called Marktplaats Pro.
Marktplaats Pro offers premium features to publish an ad, such as: links to a product page/website, contact details, direct messages via email, premium ad positions and many more. Besides Marktplaats has 8.2 million visitors per day, which gives you a nice platform to sell your product.
Before you start: create a Marktplaats Pro account
To be able to start with advertising on Marktplaats, you will first need to sign up for a Marktplaats Pro account. You can sign up for free via the website of Marktplaats.
After creating an account at Marktplaats Pro, you can immediately start advertising via the Marktplaats website and reach millions of visitors.
Authorization & License
Marktplaats Pro username & password
Before you can start publishing advertisments to the Marktplaats website, you should connect the Marktplaats Pro app with your Marktplaats Pro account. There you will see the app is asking for an username and password. These are the exact same username and password, as used for log in to your Marktplaats Pro account.
- Log in to your Shopify store
- navigate to the Marktplaats app settings via sales channels -> Marktplaats Pro
- Click the button authorize
- You will get redirected to the login page of Marktplaats Pro
- Once filled in a correct username and password, you will get redirected back to the Shopify settings page
- The status should change to authorized
General settings
Vanity URL
This allows you to display a custom, user-friendly link text in the ad description instead of a long, technical product URL.
Ad link type
This setting determines where the customer lands after clicking the ad; you can choose between sending them directly to the "Product page" for more details or straight to the "Checkout" page.
Price type
Defines how the price is displayed on Marktplaats, such as a "Fixed price" (Vaste prijs), "Bidding allowed" (Bieden), or "See description" (Zie omschrijving).
Total ad budget
Sets the maximum amount of money you are willing to spend on this specific advertisement to control your marketing costs.
Seller name
The official name of the business or seller that will be displayed on the Marktplaats platform.
Post code
Used to show the location of the seller to potential buyers, which helps customers estimate distance or shipping expectations.
Shipping type
Allows you to specify the delivery options available for the product, such as "Ship" (Verzenden), "Pickup" (Ophalen), or both.
Shipping cost
The flat rate or specific amount charged to the customer for delivering the item.
Shipping time
(Partially visible) Indicates the expected delivery timeframe or when the product will be dispatched.
Connect categories
Category mapping functionality
When publishing an advertisement, its mandatory that the products are set in categories (collections) and those categories are mapped to the categories of Marktplaats. In Shopify, the groups you use to organize your products are officially called Collections, rather than categories. When using the Marktplaats Pro plugin, it is important to remember that you will be mapping these Shopify Collections to the corresponding Marktplaats category structure to ensure your advertisements appear in the right place.
For example, Marktplaats utilizes the following category structure:
- Electronics & Computer
- Keyboards
- Mouses
- Accessoires
You can easily link this to your own specific Shopify category structure, as shown in the example below:
- Electronics & Computer > Computer
- Keyboards > Keyboards & Mouses
- Mouses > Keyboards & Mouses
- Accessoires > Accessoires
The CPC needs to be set up right after you've connected your categories to the ones of Marktplaats.
Cost per Click
Marktplaats Pro works with a Cost per Click (CPC) logic, meaning you are only charged a small fee when a potential buyer clicks through to your website from your advertisement. The exact price per click is not fixed; instead, it is influenced by several variables including the specific product category, the current popularity of your item, and the level of active competition.
You can manage these costs by configuring your maximum CPC within the category mapping settings. It is important to find a strategic balance with your bid, as setting a CPC that is too low may result in your ad being overshadowed by competitors who are willing to pay more for visibility. Ultimately, you should choose a bid that works with what you are willing to invest to secure a potential sale.
Product actions
Publish a product
In order to proceed to actually publishing products, first make sure you followed these steps:
- set up all the general settings
- Put your products in collections
- Map those collections to the Marktplaats categories
- set up a CPC
Once you have completed these steps, you are ready to sync and publish your Shopify products directly to your Marktplaats Pro account.
The steps to take:
- Navigate to the product page in your Shopify store
You must first add your products to the Marktplaats Pro sales channel. There are two ways to do this:
a. on product level:
* click on a product to enter the product edit page
* on the right you will see the publishing section
* click on the slider symbol
* there you will need to enable the toggle to add the product in the Marktplaats Pro sales channel
* click on Done when finished
* NOTE: don't forget to save the changes
b. in BULK: navigate to the product page
* there you will need to select the products you would like to publish
* when products are selected, the next option appears:

* after clicking this option, you will have the option include in sales channels
* in the next screen you can choose the Marktplaats sales channel
* click on include products
Your products should appear in your Marktplaats Pro account within approximately five minutes, though this timeframe may vary depending on whether you are publishing individually or in bulk.
If a product fails to synchronize, open the product details and check the publishing section. Any Marktplaats Pro errors will be indicated by an orange exclamation mark next to the sales channel.

Already selling products on Marktplaats?
Our app will recognize the ad and link your Shopify product to that ad and update it with the information from Shopify.
This will only work in normal conditions, this means; no reinstall, domain switch e.g.
Update a product
Any changes that are made to a product after publishing it to Marktplaats, will get synchronized automatically within a couple of minutes. Keep in mind that Shopify is leading, so any changes made in Marktplaats will not get synchronized to Shopify.
Delete a product
To remove products from Marktplaats, you can use either the individual or bulk deletion method. Since the process mirrors the publishing steps, it should feel familiar. Let's break it down:
on product level:
* navigate to your product page
* click on the product you want to remove
* on the right you will see the publishing section
* click on the slider symbol
* there you will need to disable the toggle to add the product in the Marktplaats Pro sales channel. This will remove the product from Marktplaats
* click on Done when finished
* NOTE: don't forget to save the changes
in BULK:
* navigate to the product page
* there you will need to select the products you wish to delete
* when products are selected, the next option appears:

* after clicking this option, you will have the option Exclude fom sales channels
* in the next screen you can choose the Marktplaats Pro sales channel
* click on Exclude products
Synchronise content to Marktplaats Pro
The Marktplaats Pro app will use the following content field by default, to be used for the advertisement.
- Product title = Advertisement title
- Product description = Advertisement description
- Product images = Advertisement images
