What does this error mean?
When uploading product content to Bol.com, the following error may appear next to an image URL:
The file is corrupt or contains errors in the metadata. Please check the source file and try again.
Bol.com is rejecting the image in question. The plugin passes image URLs directly to Bol.com without any processing, meaning Bol.com evaluates and rejects the file on their end when a problem is detected.
Cause
This error is almost always caused by corrupt or invalid EXIF metadata embedded in the original photo. EXIF metadata is information automatically stored in an image file, such as camera settings, GPS location, or edit history. If this metadata is corrupt, Bol.com will reject the file.
Solution: Re-save the image
Re-saving the image strips the EXIF metadata and creates a clean new file. This resolves the issue in virtually all cases.
Follow these steps:
1. Download the image from the URL shown in the error message.
2. Open the file in an image editor, such as:
• Adobe Photoshop
• GIMP (free)
• Paint (Windows)
• Preview (Mac)
3. Save the image as a new file (File → Save As). Use JPG or PNG format.
4. Upload the new file to the WordPress media library and replace the existing image on the product.
5. Try uploading the product to Bol.com again.
Additional tips
• Always check the filename: special characters or spaces can sometimes cause issues. Stick to letters, numbers, and hyphens.
• Make sure the image meets Bol.com's requirements: minimum 500×500 pixels, maximum 8 MB, in JPG or PNG format.
