Introduction

Bol.com has introduced a mandatory requirement to add a Market Participant to your retailer account. This change is a direct result of the Digital Services Act (DSA), a piece of European legislation designed to increase transparency, safety, and accountability across digital platforms.

What is a Market Participant and why is it mandatory?

A Market Participant (also referred to as an Economic Operator) represents your business on a legal level. This is the designated person or entity legally responsible for the products you sell through bol.com. Registering this data correctly is essential to avoid any disruption to your sales.

This article guides you through adding your Market Participant details in your bol.com seller dashboard and linking them correctly within your WordPress plugin.

Add the Market Participant in your bol.com Retailer account

Before configuring the plugin, you must first create the profile within your main bol.com dashboard.

  1. Log into your bol.com retailer account.

  2. Click on your company name in the top right corner and select Settings.

  3. Under the My Store dropdown menu, click on Market Participants.

  4. Click the + Market participant button.

  5. Fill in the required legal data and click Save.

Configure the Market Participant in the bol.com plugin

Once the data is saved on bol.com, you need to clear your plugin's cache so it can fetch the newly created profile, and then select it.

  1. Log into your WordPress backend.

  2. Navigate to your bol.com plugin settings.

  3. Click on the Tools tab and click Empty Cache. (This forces the plugin to retrieve your updated account details from bol.com).

  4. Next, go to the Authorization tab.

  5. Under the Settings heading, locate the Economic Operator dropdown menu.

  6. Select your recently created Market Participant/Operator from the list.

  7. Click Save Settings.

Your Market Participant is now successfully linked and your store is fully compliant with the latest DSA regulations!
