How to publish unique products to bol.com

In this article we will explain how to publish unique products to bol.com. This means EAN codes on bol that don't have content yet.

Updated today

With the latest version of the bol.com plugin, we’ve introduced a new feature that allows you to upload unique products to bol.com.

What are unique products?

These are EAN codes that don’t yet have any content on bol.com, meaning you’re the first seller offering that product. Since bol.com has no existing information for it, you’ll need to provide the product content, which must then be reviewed and approved by bol.com before it goes live.

New EAN Codes Required for Unique Products

If you're publishing unique products to bol.com, you will need new EAN codes for those products. Since these products don’t exist yet on bol.com, they require a valid EAN (European Article Number) to be listed.

Where to Get EAN Codes?

EAN codes are not automatically generated—you must purchase them from an official provider. One of the most recognized sources is GS1, but there are also other reputable platforms where you can buy valid EAN codes online.

Important Notes:

  • Make sure the EAN codes you purchase are valid and not reused.

  • Without a correct EAN, bol.com won’t approve your product listing.

  • Every unique product variation (e.g., different sizes, colors) needs its own EAN code.

If you don’t yet have EAN codes for your products, we recommend obtaining them before attempting to upload unique products to bol.com.

Enable product content

Before we can start uploading unique products, we need to enable product content in the plugin settings.

  1. Go to the plugin settings

  2. Click on the Product Content tab

  3. Enable the option Upload new products

  4. Choose your content language. Your options are:

    1. Dutch

    2. French

  5. Choose how often the datamodel file with product classifications should be retrieved from Bol. Your options are:

    1. Weekly

    2. Monthly

  6. Lastly, click on Save Changes

Category mapping

After you enabled product content, we need to do the category mapping. Here you will connect and configure your WooCommerce categories, to the bol.com categories.

  1. Go to the plugin settings

  2. Click on the Category Mapping tab

  3. On the left side, choose the desired bol.com category. You can also use the search bar to look for a specific category

  4. On the right side, choose the desired WooCommerce category you like to connect your bol.com category with

  5. Lastly, click on Connect

Configure category

Once the categories are connected, the next step is to configure them. This involves setting up Mandatory & Optional fields in WooCommerce, specifying where the plugin should retrieve its information and content.

By configuring categories in advance, you eliminate the need to manually set up product content later.

If a product belongs to a connected and configured WooCommerce category, it will automatically inherit the content you have mapped and configured in this step.

  1. On the right side of the connected category, click on the Configure category fields button

  2. A pop-up screen will open where you will have the Mandatory & Optional fields

  3. Configure at least the Mandatory fields to be able to publish the products, but it's best to also map Optional fields

  4. Fields you can map to:

    1. Product attribute

    2. Product custom field

    3. Product title (only for title)

    4. Product description (only for description)

  5. After everything is mapped as desired, scroll down and click on Save Configuration

Publishing unique products

Once your categories are connected and configured, you’re ready to publish your unique products to bol.com.

Steps to Upload Content:

  1. In the WooCommerce product page, select "Bulk Action: Upload Content" and click on "Apply".

  2. The status will show "Processing" for a while, but eventually, Published will appear (this is expected).

  3. If it results in an error, please continue to follow these steps underneath.

  4. Open the product editing page and scroll down to Product Data.

  5. Click on the Bol.com tab and select "Manage Content".

  6. A pop-up screen will appear, allowing you to review the Mandatory & Optional fields you configured earlier.

  7. If everything looks good, scroll down and click "Save Content" to finalize the process.
